Onslow Port Project

  • Client: Mineral Resources
  • Location: Pilbara, Western Australia
  • Date: 2023

Project Overview and Scope

The Onslow Iron Port Project involved the engineering and design of major port-side materials handling infrastructure, including a large storage shed fed by a travelling tripper, multiple conveyors, a surge bin, and integration with a reclaimer and ship loader. Following preliminary engineering by CSI, EMtek was engaged to progress the concept through to final engineering and detailing, providing the design development required to support fabrication, construction and delivery of the port facility.

Services and Outcome

Mtek delivered mechanical, structural and concrete engineering and design for key conveyor and transfer infrastructure within the port materials handling system, including the CV01/CV02 Transfer Station, CV03 Drive and GTU Station, CV03 to CV04 Transfer Station, Sample Station and CV04 Head End.

Key areas of delivery included:

  • Detailed engineering and design management across the conveyor and transfer station package
  • Mechanical, structural, concrete, piping and civil design for transfer stations, drive stations, gravity take-up stations and associated infrastructure
  • Design of transfer chutes, sample station equipment layouts, reject handling arrangements and head end interfaces
  • Development of support structures, access systems, monorails, guarding, cladding, ducting and dust collection interfaces
  • Foundation and slab design for equipment, structures, sumps and ancillary infrastructure
  • Delivery of integrated 3D modelling and shop detailing to support fabrication
  • Ongoing support to CSI through construction, commissioning and operations

This work provided the detailed engineering and shop-detailing package needed to take the port conveyor system from concept design through to implementation.
