Chute Upgrade Engineering Study Main 1

Chute Upgrade Engineering and Design

  • Client: Fortescue
  • Location: Pilbara, Western Australia
  • Date: 2017

Project Scope

To assist Fortescue with the exiting material handling issues on a stacker transfer chute, EMtek was requested to complete the investigation and detailed design to rectify the blow back issues from the head chute. These issues were causing ore build-up on the impact plate, excessive stacker belt wear and spillage between the skirts and the boom belt. With the stacker operating at an 11.5 degree luff and a range of slew angles, EMtek investigated the upper and lower chute deflectors, proposed recommended changes and produce detailed drawings for fabrication of the approved changes. Recognised for their culture, innovation and industry-leading infrastructure developments of mining assets, EMtek took pride in driving this project to successful completion in collaboration with Fortescue.

Major Work Inclusions

  • Develop calibrated DEM model of the existing transfer chute.
  • Propose changes to the upper and lower impact plate and assess the effects on belt wear, belt tracking and materials handling.
  • Upper chute modifications – launch pulley with new impact plate.
  • Detailed engineering of the head end structure modifications including upper impact plate and chute modifications.
  • Design drawings, shop detailed drawings and general arrangements for all modifications.
  • Lower chute modifications to improve feed onto belt.
  • Detailed engineering of the feed chute structure modifications and lower impact plate.
