Biggie OLC Study Main 1 1

Bigge Overland Conveyor Study

  • Client: Fortescue
  • Location: Pilbara, Western Australia
  • Date: 2020

Project Scope

Working in collaboration with Fortescue, EMtek completed an engineering study for the execution of CV010 to identify opportunities and optimise the earthworks, drainage, mechanical and structural components of the project as a hybrid team. This study assisted with the development plans at the Cloudbreak Mine as it moves mining operations to the Biggie deposit on the western side of the Cloudbreak ore processing facility. EMtek was thrilled with the successful result of this study progressing to detailed engineering and design.

Major Work Inclusions

  • SMP and E&IC to look at the conveyor configuration profile and optimisation of components.
  • Trade off study to review differences of belt widths versus TPH options.
  • Low level module footing design to reduce earthworks and drainage.
  • Design of low level modules and all associated components.
  • Floodway versus small embankment 'culvert model'.
  • Trade off of HV and LV combined tunnel versus separated tunnels.
  • E&I including new switchroom, relocating crushing and tail end conveyor kiosk and integration of the conveyor kiosk into the crushing facility.
