# Grinding and Milling

Better-performing comminution circuits start with understanding how equipment, material and slurry interact. EMtek combines multidisciplinary engineering with advanced DEM and SPH modelling to deliver practical, efficient grinding and milling solutions.

## **Integrated engineering solutions for efficient comminution circuits**

Grinding and milling circuits play a critical role in mineral recovery, plant throughput and operating costs. EMtek provides multidisciplinary engineering solutions for new and existing comminution facilities, from concept studies and equipment selection through to detailed design, commissioning and operational optimisation.

Our integrated team considers the grinding circuit and its supporting infrastructure as a complete system, developing practical solutions that balance performance, reliability, maintainability, energy efficiency and whole-of-life cost.

### **DEM and SPH Modelling**

EMtek applies advanced numerical modelling to better understand the interaction between grinding media, particles, slurry and equipment geometry.

- **Discrete Element Method (DEM)** modelling can be used to assess particle and grinding-media movement, material trajectories, impact zones, liner geometry and wear-prone areas.
- **Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)** modelling supports the analysis of slurry flow and other complex fluid behaviours within mills, chutes, transfer systems and associated equipment.

DEM and SPH can also be combined to evaluate particle–fluid interactions, providing greater insight into mill charge behaviour, slurry transport, discharge performance and potential design constraints.

 ### **Practical, multidisciplinary outcomes**

By combining engineering experience with advanced simulation tools, EMtek develops solutions focused on:

- Increased throughput and process stability
- Improved energy and classification efficiency
- Reduced wear and unplanned downtime
- Safer and more maintainable plant layouts
- Effective integration with existing operations
- Improved equipment reliability and asset life

Whether developing a new grinding circuit or improving an existing facility, EMtek provides coordinated engineering from initial assessment through to implementation and operational support.
